Why Pearl Forge Exists

Mission

To connect people with each other and the land through food, art, stewardship, and learning.

Vision

To inspire and nurture a culture of stewardship and sustainable community building by creating a rural commons where people gather to learn, work, celebrate, create, restore, and reconnect.

We believe many of today’s social and environmental challenges stem from a growing disconnection -- from nature, from food systems, from local communities, and from the places we call home.

Pearl Forge exists to help restore those connections.

Through stewardship of the land and by creating opportunities for gathering, learning, creativity, and service, we hope to cultivate a stronger sense of belonging—for both people and place.

A Living Conservation Landscape

Pearl Forge encompasses more than 80 acres of protected farmland, prairie, woodland, and wetland in the Town of Genesee.

The property includes agricultural fields, restored prairie, wildlife habitat, a fen wetland, the headwaters of Genesee Creek, and a historic farmstead. Much of the property is permanently protected through a conservation easement, ensuring that its agricultural and ecological values will be preserved for future generations.

We view the land as both a responsibility and a teacher. Every restoration project, partnership, and community gathering is guided by a commitment to protecting and enhancing the ecological health of this landscape.

At Pearl Forge, the land comes first. All programming and future development are designed to support—not compromise—its long-term stewardship.

Growing Towards a Rural Commons

Our tagline -- Planting Seeds. Building Bridges. -- reflects both how we think about community building and how we hope Pearl Forge will evolve over time.

We plant seeds by restoring habitat, supporting local agriculture, sharing knowledge, encouraging creativity, and creating opportunities for people to gather around meaningful experiences.

We build bridges by welcoming educators, artists, conservationists, wellness practitioners, community groups, neighbors, and visitors who are working to strengthen connections within their own communities.

Pearl Forge is being developed gradually and intentionally.

Our current efforts focus on ecological restoration and stewardship while creating space for others to bring their ideas to life. Workshops, retreats, educational programs, volunteer projects, creative experiences, and community gatherings all contribute to the larger goal of helping people reconnect with the land, with one another, and with a shared sense of purpose.

Over time, we envision Pearl Forge growing into a rural commons -- a place where stewardship, learning, hospitality, creativity, and community life intersect.

We are allowing the land and the community to guide that evolution, building thoughtfully and sustainably while remaining grounded in the values that brought us here in the first place.
